History of Building
Hickory Hill Elementary School, home of the Huskies, opened its doors in 1985 to serve the growing population in central Papillion. Proudly displaying blue and gold as its colors, the school was named after the native hickory trees in the area, reflecting its strong ties to environmental education.
Since its establishment, Hickory Hill has been known for its outstanding outdoor education programs, including a school garden and nature trail. These initiatives highlight the school's commitment to connecting students with nature and fostering an appreciation for the environment.
Over the years, Hickory Hill has undergone several improvements to enhance its facilities and educational offerings. As part of the 2006 bond issue, the school received additions to accommodate its growing student population. A significant renovation took place in the mid-2010s, updating classrooms and adding new collaborative learning spaces to support modern educational practices.
The Husky mascot, symbolizing strength, endurance, and teamwork, reflects the school's dedication to developing these qualities in its students. Hickory Hill Elementary exemplifies the district's tagline "Be Known for Greatness" through its innovative environmental education programs and commitment to fostering each student's unique potential.
As part of the 2023 Bond project, Hickory Hill is set to undergo further major renovations to update the school to today's standards. These improvements, scheduled to begin in early spring and be completed by August 2025, include installing a secure entrance, adding a finishing kitchen, and making major interior updates. This project demonstrates the district's ongoing commitment to providing state-of-the-art educational facilities for its students.
Through its focus on environmental education, continuous facility improvements, and dedication to nurturing well-rounded students, Hickory Hill Elementary continues to play a vital role in the Papillion La Vista Community Schools district. The school remains committed to preparing students for future success while fostering a deep connection to the natural world around them.
